Timeline
The Monte Alegre district, which is a true symbol of the wealth and prosperity of Vale do Piracicaba, was, in the 19th century, a landmark of the powerful sugarcane cultivation. These days, Monte Alegre is a heritage asset that OJI PAPÉIS ESPECIAIS is proud to help preserve.
In 1804, the Monte Alegre farm was founded by Father Joaquim Amaral Gurgel, who was, at the time, one of the main landowners in the municipality. In the year 1824, the Monte Alegre and Taquaral farms were joined together to then form Engenho do Monte Alegre.
In 1910, Pedro Morganti purchased Monte Alegre and set up, in 1924, refinery Refinadora Paulista S.A. Twenty-seven years later, Pedro Morganti's hours started the construction of the pulp and paper plant, to take advantage of the cellulose from sugarcane bagasse from the Mill. The Pulp and Paper Plant was inaugurated on October 24, 1953.
In 1971, the Silva Gordo family bought refinery Refinadora Paulista, and, a year later, the pulp and paper plant was revamped and started to use eucalyptus pulp as a raw material.
In 1980, the Indústria de Papel Piracicaba (IPP) was created and Usina Monte Alegre was definitely shut down, thus starting to be controlled by Grupo Simão.
In 1992, Papel Simão entered into negotiations with Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP), which incorporated the Piracicaba, Jacareí, Mogi das Cruzes units and distribution company KSR.
On September 1, 2009, VCP was merged with Aracruz Celulose S/A, thereby causing Fibria Celulose S/A to be born, to which the paper plant was a part.
For almost 2 years growing together with Fibria, the human asset capital made the plant the leading manufacturer of specialty papers in the country, reaching levels of excellence in the production and sale of products and services.
